Chaenomeles fruit
Can anyone help me please.
I have a deep orange chaenomeles plant which has produced an abundance of yellow/brown fruit this year with which I was going to make quince jelly. However, I have received conflicting opinions as to whether the fruit from all plants is edible or whether some of them are purely ornamental. Does anyone know for sure as I dont want to poison anyone!!!
A also have a deep red flowering chaenomeles which hasnt produced as much fruit and the fruit itself is greener.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

The chaenomeles fruit does not have the same strong perfume as the true quince. True quinces although having a white flesh produce a deep pink jelly which goes well with meat. I have made a quite drinkable very dry white wine with japanese quinces just using the standard formula for home made wine..3lb fruit & 3lb sugar per gallon.
