when to prune ?
Beg of the year I bought 4 min fruit trees[plum, apple, pear & cherry] in tubs they are supposed to be 2 yrs old, well no fruit this year but maybe next ? should I prune them if so when ? also I have a 5yr old fig tree in a huge pot, only ever had 2 figs in all that time, when do I prune and should I be quite harsh and prune to within one inch of its life ? I really try with my little garden but its not a sucess story I'm afraid.dvise appreciated.

Re. Fig tree, prune to shape after October (not when too cold and frosty)and enjoy as an architectural plant - any fruit will be a bonus. A hard prune will encourage vigorous, whippy growth.
