My parents both died and left the house to myself, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. His solicitor dealt with probate, on completion he kept back a large sum of cash and told us he would deduct his fees and cost to change house deeds into our names. He held back £15000, how much would his fees and cost to change title deeds be - surely £15000 is a bit extreme - can any body help?

I dont recall paying any fee to file my mother's Will at the local Courthouse. My bruv & I just swore an oath, signed some paperwork & probate followed soon after.
It depends how large the estate is. Solicitors acting as executors normally claim 0.5% of the estate, in addition to their charges.
They may be holding back a sum of money in case any claims come on the estate within 6 months that they are unaware of. If the executor pays out all the money to you and your siblings immediately then s/he could be responsible for meeting that claim their self.
