Which way should I roll up a rug for storage?

I'm putting a very large & valuable rug under the loft, as it's been down for 40 years with no signs of wear, but doesn't suit proposed new colour scheme.

Do I roll it with the backing inside or outside, and is there anything else i should do?

What is the easiest way to clean a chimney flue?
