Anyone have experience of them? Recommendations for manufacturer? Are they worth the extra expense? Thank you.

Later I bought a cheap but thick topper for my woman. I think it improved comfort for her bed a great deal. And it seems to be ok too, so maybe cheap is ok?
I'd recommend you try them if you are of an age when waking up with aches is not uncommon.

I/we have tried one out in a showroom and the thing that struck me was that initially it feels like a firm mattress which, unlike the ones with the springs in them, never will sag in the middle (I have never liked the sprung ones). If you remain in the same position all night long then the memory/molding effect may be something worth having, but both my wife and I turn and generally move a lot in our sleep and then it would be truly disturbing to lie on an undulating surface. I/we rejected them altogether and instead bought very firm foam and have slept like babes ever since (not that we had problems before, on foam too) - a period of 11 or 12 years by now. All the beds in the house now have the same firm foam (one maker refers to it as Frosttex - it is a composite of shredded foam) and one of our sons got himself the same when he moved out. The other son moved out prior to our new foam being bought and has stuck with sprung mattresses and is the only family member who has sleep problems - could there be a connection ?
Highly recommended ! we have had ours for over a year, very comfy, less aching joints, sleep well. If I have a back ache it has gone by the morning after a good nights sleep. We have just bought memory foam pillows as well. We did pay a lot of money for it, went for the dearest that our local shop stocked !
In answer to catsrcool. 99% of people love them, and 1% hate them. Most people hate them for one of two reasons:
1) Most memory foam mattresses are a layer of memory foam on top of reflex foam. This can be very hot (as the reflex foam insulates), and not anywhere near as supportive as pocket sprung with memory foam.
2) Some manufacturers use a layer of memory foam that is too deep, with a density that is too high. This means that you will sink too deep into the mattress, and find it very difficult to change position.
La Romantica Beds make some excellent 2 sided (so they will last longer), pocket sprung and memory foam mattresses.

In reply to KARL. Actually a good quality sprung mattress that is turned on a regular basis should give an absolute minimum of 10 years good service without sagging.
On the other hand reflex foam mattresses are made up from loads of bubbles, which over time can start to burst, which will over time leave a dip in the mattress.
