painting over textured wallpaper.

i have beige coloured textured wallpaper with dark red squares dotted over it.how do you think i should go about painting over it with emulsion.i do not want the red to show through. thanks

couple of coats of white (trade matt works well) first then the colour you want

I'd suspect painting over many many red squares would be too much hassle. If you use decent paint one coat maybe be enough anyway. Otherwise two coats is what I'd normally use, to be on the safe side. If the squares still show through, buy a better brand of paint next time. A roller should suffice, but use a brush if you ar happier with it. Cover any carpet/furnishings.
