Acrylic Or Steel Bath

Which do you prefer ?
Is a 5mm thick 'Lucite' acrylic bath going to be strong or should I opt for a steel bath (hoping its not too heavy to get up the stairs).

Don't have lots of experience with different baths but each type has it's own advantages. Acrylic is likely to be warmer, but it is flexible. I prefer cast iron, but I think it's a matter for your own taste.

Why not a tin bath in front of the fire?

Acrylic every time for me, the enamel on a steel bath is too easily damaged you should only use certain cleaners on it and I don't like the clanging metallic sound you get with a steel one.

5mm sounds incredibly thin. Drop a showerhead and it might punch right through! And it would flex like a luge in the Winter Olympics!. There are far thicker and sturdier acrylic baths on the market.

I know someone who fitted an acrylic bath in a strong frame and then stuffed the bottom of it full of insulation beads. I thought that was a nifty idea (although it could make getting at the bath a bit tricky for plumbing repairs).

Steel bath every time. Acrylic ones are a pain to clean and very soon look scruffy.

Plastic baths (that's what they are!) always feel cheap to me- and look it.
