Which Washing Machine Is Best

I need to buy a new washing machine, but as we have a water meter and the electric prices as they are I need to make the right choice, I would be glad of any suggestions and advice.

Best brands are Miele, Bosch (both pricey but excellent all-rounders) and John Lewis own-brand.
Avoid Hotpoint and Hoover (mediocre and troublesome).
