Disconnecting An Electric Cooker

I need to remove an electric cooker for disposal.

I am competent to do the job, but is it legal ? Or does legislation require a qualified electrician ?

I think it's probably illegal but I'd do it anyway - having switched off the power circuit obviously!

If a new ones to be installed it might be worth getting someone qualified to do it if only for peace of mind.

I agree with SandyRoe, for the purpose of making sure it's earthed correctly and is on an RCD, although it isn't required to be on an RCD.

It's okay to disconnect an electric oven yourself, however, if you intend fitting a replacement either get the delivery company to fit it for you or get an electrician. Both will test the circuit for earth and suitability.

It's not a major alteration or installing a new circuit, so you can certainly do it yourself.

If the cable comes out of the wall from a hard-wired cooker outlet, then disconnect there. That'll leave everything safe.
