Tp24 Light Fitting

My brother in law has a new flat with about 5 lights fitted for the TP24 15w lights. Problem is that although on the box it says 8,000 hours and 30,000 switching cycles, they hardly last 6 months before needing to be replaced at £10+ each time. I have heard many others say that these lights are both expensive to buy and costly to run. I had thought of changing all of the light fittings over to the 'old style' bayonet fitting, using ordinary bulbs, or perhaps even LED bulbs in there. Is this likely to cause a wiring problem please? I know the flat is a Housing Association house, and any changes will need to be reversed at a later date, but I'm just thinking in the short term at the moment. Thoughts please?

Lots of cheap imported lamps around right now, Mr H.

I would fit LED direct replacements.

As TB says...you can use most lamps with a GU10 cap....or replace the bulbholders with one of your choice...bayonet or ES.The low energy fittings have to be fitted from new because the building regs dictate that a percentage of fittings are low energy.....the fact that they only last a few months and cost a tenner each is largely ignored.
