If a whole city or state is geared up to Google transport and the people decide they don't like it (too many ads popping up on your windscreens etc), will they be able to revert to what they've got now? Or will the whole system have changed so fundamentally that there are no longer alternatives?

We went to Scarborough on Saturday and used the Park and Ride. Usually very reliable and convenient.
This time the bus braked sharply (twice) and caused consternation and a hold-up. The driver apologised and explained that the computer had flashed up a message saying that he had to stop the bus and switch off the engine.
I'm not a fan of computer controlled vehicles! My car has insisted for ages that I need a service (I don't) and finally sulked, refusing to show anything except demand for Service Due. Took a trip to the garage to sort it out. :(
