Had a bit of a party last night and it all ended in tears! Unfortunately someone lit the fire and did not move the ornate candles from the hearth so subsequently it now has a large wax puddle on it. The hearth is one of those porous stone ones. Is there a way of cleaning it or is it an insurance job?

Try heating up a teaspoon, holding it on the wax until it melts, then wiping and sponging it up with a damp cloth. You'll probably always have a bit of a dark stain there though.

I think you're both right, there will always be some sort of stain. Ah well time to get some home insurance money back.
