Painting over lining paper

Hi our in the process of getting our walls lined and painted by a decorator but you can see the lines quite clearly - is this normal - he has done a few coats - maybe he needs a thicker roller

Each strip should be butted against the next and not leave any joints visible. What would it look like if he was putting up patterned paper? He wouldn't be able to paint over the joins then. Sound like he's not doing a very good job. Get someone else.
If the joins are too visible, it's quite in order to put another layer of paper over the top of the first one, but in the other direction, (i.e. horizontally).

I am no expert but I have had to put lineing papper on all the walls of my house, and then painted over, and you can not see the joins. The trick is to use the thickest grade paper, and once the past has gon on leave it for a time so that the paper expands and then put it up. Get him off the job and your money back

i have had lining paper put up before and although the joints were not large i used filler to make invisible - a little time consuming maybe but worth it as the paper will be up probably for ever. get your decorator to do that. good luck.

Hi, I lined my walls with a thick lining paper then ran down the seams with "fine surface" filler then very lightly sanded this, it's very easy and I can't see any seams at all. Hope this helps.

tell him to polyfilla the joins. Don't accept anything less than perfect if you are paying him to do the job make sure its done to your satsfaction

When putting up lining paper you should leave a hairline gap along the joints. This will be filled by the emulsion and won't be visible.

I have put lining paper on my walls and have filled the gaps with flexible filler. Two coats of paint later and all was well. However a month on I can see the joints in the paper have discoloured. What can I do.
