can you put wall mounted tv`s, eg plasma/lcd above a fire on the wall please.

Yes - if you don't plan on using the fire! Otherwise wouldn't recommend it.

I agree ...they get hot enough, without help from a fire ...

extremely bad idea. heat rises and this shortens the life of components. those screens get very hot as it is.
