We bought a Vax Rapide XL with the rotating brushbars. It did an excellent job and leaves the carpet almost dry.
We had previously employed a professional to clean our carpets but this does the job just as well, without too much effort.
Our two sons have both used it in their home (one with dog hair in the carpets) and have commented on how well it cleans and restores carpets.

Thanks Gina,we have cream carpets ( upstairs only) and they do attract everything.
Bissell Proheat is an excellent carpet shampooer, extremely thorough with a choice of fragrances in their shampoo range. It's also very easy to use and leaves the carpets quite dry. It has a "smart mix" facility so no time wasted measuring out ratios of shampoo to water - and it keeps the water hot!
