Cat clawing furniture

My cat is now 8 years old, she has clawed every three piece suite I have ever had, I am moving soon and want to buy a new one, does anyone have any ideas how I can stop her from doing this. She has had scratch posts, lots of toys, she goes out so shouldn't be bored. When I come in the house she stands there doing it while looking at me so I think she knows she shouldn't do it!

You can buy an anti-scratch spray from Wilkinsons and Pets at Home. Apparently, cats can smell it (and they hate it!) but humans can't.

Thank you Wispy, I didn't know you could get a spray, will try and find one and give it a go. My nearest Wilkinsons is about 20 miles away!! Do you know if vets sell it?

Newlywed I would not bother - I have tried this stuff and it does not work for me. My cat also destroyed 2 sofas and I blame myself for not stopping her when she first started. I have resorted (since buying my new sofa) to covering the bit she scratches with a throw. You could also try spraying her with water when she does it as this will put her off but not hurt her.

I'm not sure whether you can buy it from the vet.
You could also rub orange or lemon peel on the bits which she scratches, or try spraying the areas with white vinegar.
Have you tried rubbing the scratching post with catnip leaves to attract her to it more?
She sounds like a cheeky little moo, looking at you whilst she's scratching!!!

I need a 100% foolproof solution to this problem as well - four cats - the place looks like its been visited by Freddy Kruger!

we got told to try clove oil as they apparently don't like it - it didn't work for us but it may for your cat?? just a few drops in the area she scratches.
they do have to sharpen their claws tho and you may be stuck with this if it's been going on for 8 years - unfortunately.

Hi all and thank you for taking the time to reply, I guess it is trial and error with all your suggestions, and yes Wispy she is a cheeky moo, I swear she knows she shouldn't do it like a naughty child!! Still love her to bits though

You can get sticky strips to stick on your furniture, and when the cat goes to scratch there, he wont like the stickiness. You can get them here in 2 sizes:-
