How should i wash my double duvet? It is not dirty, I just think it needs a freshen up, but would it be cheaper just to buy a new one rather than taking it to a dry cleaner?

Try looking at the washing instructions on the label if it's a cotton or polyester cotton mix a 40 degree wash should freshen it up. Or you could take it to your nearest launderette if you don't have a washing machine that is big enough, much cheaper than dry cleaning. The following websites have further information for you.

to be honest they are about a tenner in tesco, so you could be right about it being cheaper to get e new one!
To add a bit more on the cost, We had to use Laundrette for a month, costs may vary according to areas, but where we live, the only machine that would take a double, cost 6.00, add to that the cost of your detergent & softener, then you want to dry it, the drier was 1.00 for twenty minutes.

As suggested, buy a new one.
I had one cleaned a good few years ago cost 25 then so I endorse cheaper to buy a new one.

Thanks, that's what I thought, I'll buy a new cheap one instead as mine won't fit in my own washing machine
We have a king size lightweight polyester duvet which is too big for my washing machine so I wait for good sunny or windy day and wash it in the bath in warm water. I let the worst of the surplus water drain away for a couple of hours and then spread it out across the top of my Hills Hoist in the garden. It's a big of a fag and a two handed job but it's a darned sight cheaper than buying a new one or paying a dry cleaning bill, and you get that lovely "fresh air" smell afterwards.
Debenhams used to sell a duvet which could be washed in a normal washing machine regardless of wheher it was a single or a double or kingsize... Also I think with duvets you get what you pay for...10.00 doesn't seem much for a decent winter one....
