the worst thing we did when we redesigned our kitchen, was to put those black shiny worktops in. they never look clean!!when you wipe them they just leave smear marks. never again!!

... and your question is?
We're just in the process of changing our kitchen. At the moment our cupboard doors are very dark green and glossy ( came with the house, I hate them ) and every time I open or close a door there are new fingerprints and wiping it down just makes it worse. Glossy and kitchens are not a good mix.
Not a question, buildersmate, maybe just some advice for those who think these things look great in the showroom but haven't realised how high maintenence they are in a real kitchen.
Dark-coloured bathroom suites were all the rage at one time - until folk learned that they had landed themselves with the same problem that you have.
One Magic ingredient = WD40
Watered down white vinegar in a spray bottle, couple of sprays and a clean cotton cloth works on mine.
I too have the glossy worktops. Never again! It is not a problem getting them clean, it is just that they show everything, fingermarks, dust, even water marks. They drive me potty, and I will be changing them as soon as I can afford to. They are just not practical, I am forever polishing them.
Im a kitchen fitter and always advise against them. They scratch very easy as well!
I have black glossy work tops and i love them - just have to wipe them over with a dry cloth after wiping them with the damp one and they are absolutely fine and since worktops in a kitchen should be kept scrupioulsy clean for hygiene purposes i don't see this as a problem
