I was just wondering if anyone has any preference about gloss paint? I use quick drying water based paint instead of the usual oil based paint because of the obvious quick drying and the fact that its easier to clean brushes afterwards. Has anyone any opinions on this this. Thanks in advance.

I never use oil based gloss as its hard to use, long to dry, and it yellows very quickly due to the oil content. On wood I use water based Satinwood or Eggshell.
Me too!!! Oil based paint yukky stuff! smells horrible and the finish is not as smooth. Its also far easier to wash the brushes without having to worry about turps and its awful lingering odour. Well thats my opinion anyway
It depends on the result you want. If you're looking for a super high gloss finish, you won't get it from water-based paints. If you're painting bare wood, water-based paints raise the grain, and this will always show, unless you do a lot of resanding and repainting. And a quicker drying paint can be difficult to apply without leaving brushmarks. (B&Q's water-based 'Everwhite' gloss is an example). In general, the slower the drying time, the better the final finish.
