White Floor Tile Grout

I am getting white floor tiles on my kitchen floor and the tiler has recommended that I do not use white grout as he says this will go grey quickly. He has suggested grey of black grout. This seems a bit odd as I had visions of a lovely white floor!
Can anyone tell me if this is true and if so which colour grout normally goes with a white floor?

I would go for white grout with white tiles.
Its easy to keep clean with bleach and when it does eventually get a bit grubbier, you can buy a 'grout pen' and it brings the white up lovely again, its like painting the grout.

Black would be yuk
Grey is ok but not my choice, will look grubby from day 1

he is the alleged expert right enough but its what you prefer that counts, you have to live with it and upkeep it

You're tiler will have seen this a thousand times and is only trying to help you. You will soon get fed up of been on you're hands and knee's scrubbing every other day to try and keep the grout looking clean. it will also soon become splash stained near the sink and cooker/oven with grease that will not be so easy to remove. I would take up his advice he is after-all the expert.

Agree with Gasman. Go for a 'dirty kitchen floor' colour of sludgy pale-ish grey/brown. May sound awful, but it won't look at all out of place, but becomes a feature that will look great. If the grout's too dark, like black, it's going to show up dirt just as much as white would.

my daughter moved into a house with floor tiles and grouting in the kitchen, and she hates them. The tiles are cream and the grouting dirty cream.
She accidentaly dropped a heavy Denby plate while cooking, the plate suvived, but the floor tile is broken and cracked.
She would love to smash it all up, but they are cemented down, and doesnt know how to take them up, it will probably be a horrible job to do.
I think grouting is hard enough to keep white in the bathroom, a kitchen would be a no no for me.
I think black grounting might look odd.
All white floor probably will look lovely, but is it practical.

I've just recently had a bathroom redone and chose light grey tiles. Like you Button, the salesman reccomended I use darker grout. I wasn't sure about this, as I thought it would look odd, seeing as I'd be using white grout on the walls.

Anyway, I decided to take his advice and chose light grey grout and it actually looks very nice. On white tiles though, I can't really visualise how it would look, light grey would probably look quite nice.

In my own bathroom, we have large brownish tiles, the colour of business envelopes, we went for cream grout on both the floor and walls, but we have identical tiles on both. I think if you are using the same tiles on walls and floor, then it would look better with the same grouting on both.

Regarding the grouting getting dirty, well it really depends how you treat your home. We don't wear outside shoes upstairs, so any dirt is probably dust, which is easy to clean. We did our bathroom a year ago and the floor grout still looks new.
