attic insulation
I am thinking of laying down another layer of attic insulation.my house is 7yrs old.
What is the best way to go about this does it cost much for someone to do this type of work?
Would there be an outlet for this tpye of work?id try my hand at anything!!

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Adding attic insulation is probably one of the least expensive and easiest jobs to add value and energy efficiency to your home. Here in the U.S. one can either buy rolled fibreglass insulation or the same thing comes in battens about 5 feet long and 16 inches wide. The width is standard here since that's the distance between roof joists. Another solution is to add blown in fibre glass. It's eaually as easy, but one has to rent the machine used to blow it in. It does go a little quicker though.
Here, all newer (post 1950's) homes have soffits (the underside of the roof overhang) of 12 to 24 inches. These are vented or should be. Once you're in the attice it's important that a device called a truss chute be installed at several intervals along the soffit before installing the new insulation to provide adequate ventilation into the attic; seen like this
Again, they're inexpensive and easy to install. You may have a different type of attic ventilation system...
