getting sticky labels off without leaving a mark

i have a nice tin that i'd like to re-use, which has some sticky labels on it from the original vendors/retailer. the tin has a nice matte finish on it which i don't want to spoil with the use of harsh abrasives chemicals or cleaning utensils - WHATEVER shall i do?

WD40 is very good.

fill with boiling water & stickers remove easily.

Spray furniture polish is also good. Its an old retail trick. Spray a thick layer over the remnants of the label, leave it for a few minutes, then gently rub it off. Sorted.

And if all else fails Lakeland do (I thinks its called) Sticky residue remover...anyway its for getting of labels and suchlike..

kim and aggy suggest putting on a thick layer of mayonaise, leaving for half an hour then using a plastic spatula to remove.

acetone(nail varnish remover) works everytime

Anything spirit based will get the sticky off ...

Anything from white spirit, to vodka.
