Buzzing dishwasher is driving me insane!!

Hi, Can anyone tell me why it should happen and how to prevent my dishwasher from making a 'static electricity' noise? When closed and unused it can be quiet and then for no apparent reason start humming away. It can only be stopped by opening the door a little, but sometimes even this does not work and then the door has to be opened quite wide.
The only way I have found to stop the buzzing all together is to switch it off at the mains, but this entails opening drawers and lying on the floor with a wooden spoon to reach the socket - not very convenient.
Any suggestions?
