Select Format, then conditional formatting.
Either right click on the cell and select format cells and change the cell to be a number cell and negative values will be in red

or if you want to select another colour then use conditional formatting on the format menu.
click on format on the toolbar, then cells, then select 'number' on the pop up tab.
select custom from the list on the left, then the option should be there.

in our field we normally do a negative in red with brackets around it.
