Two days ago we brought home our secondhand caravan (2004 model), and only today used a damp meter on it to our horror discovering damp walls at the back end. There are no obvious signs or smells, but the meter screeches. Is there any action we can take regarding the payment (£7000). We bought it from a reputable car firm, but would like advice on how we stand before contacting them.

did you have the chance to look at/inspect the caravan previously? If so i would have thought you had no come back at all. If it was advertised as a caravan for sale, no damp then there would be a problem but it's probably unlikely it was sold as that. I think it's your job to check the damp situation out BEFORE you buy it, not afterwards. the sellers probably don't even know if there are no signs or smells. You could contact them but as far as i can see you do not have any right to demand anything from them
Sorry, don't know much about caravans - but isn't a damp-meter for use on conventionally built walls. Perhaps it's reacting to surface moisture/condensation rather than "dampness" in the usual sense. Surely if the area was really damp, there would be that usual smell and, perhaps, mould?

Panic over as it seems to be condensation thank goodness. Thank you for your input, much obliged.
