Planning Permission

who should determine on what gets built, and what is refused. Watching a snippet of a programme called Permission impossible, it seems that there is much heartache for some who live in a rural idyll, who end up with large housing estates built on their doorstep. The debate has been raging about building more houses, understandable, even Princess Anne weighed in with a proposal that instead of building large estates which will need much infrastructure, to tack on new homes to villages, towns. Will there be any rural idylls left as the population expands, as more people want a piece of the countryside, to get out of the rat race of a city.

It would be nice if those who are the locals could say how the local area develops. But there is a balance to be made if we wish to avoid a lucky few saying, "I'm alright Jack", and vetoing reasonable applications to provide needed housing for the country's population and needed facilities.

It's a shame for people who bought a home with a view, to later have a huge estate tacked on - but we can't all be NIMBYs, people have to live somewhere.

most people aren't nimbys they bought years ago, perhaps grew up in the village, i was wondering how would anyone feel if you had a lovely rural home, then the planning dept staffed by a few people made the decision to change your life, and build thousands of new builds. After all many want that dream as they get older, a quieter life, that is becoming increasing impossible. This was also about how long it takes for planning permission to get the go ahead. I have sympathy with anyone who sees their environment changed for the worse. Perhaps if some planning departments, councils make the changes slowly it wouldn't impact so hard. Going through many parts of the countryside i knew well, little villages, small towns are like joining up the dots, massive housing estates built inbetween.

how are they a lucky few, if you have a nice place, in a lovely village, what has luck got to do with it. If born in the village and have decided that you don't wish to move, because of the location, views, lifestyle, then i don't see luck played any part.
