What would you change, or make new?

After watching a few of ''Cant Pay? we'll take it away'', on TV recently, it brought back some bad memories for me, of when I let out a house.

Its too long a story to tell, but the experience cost me £4,750, for rent arrears, and court cost.
The tenants got away Scot free, probably to repeat their actions again.

I think there should be a law, that if there is a problem of rent owing, the people should be put on a black list, a certain % taken from their income, or benefits to cover cost of damage to property , courts, bailiffs etc and pay back, even if they try and go bankrupt.

Apart from the money owing/lost, it was a very stressful, time consuming 18 months for me, and probably a lost worse for some others.

Individual Bankruptcy seems to have become a far too easy (and prevalent) way to avoid debts. I'm not saying it's pleasant, but it is misused.

Bankruptcy should only be an option where a genuine trading business has failed - otherwise debts should be enforceable (even if very slowly) for many years.
I would make it an automatic prison sentence for anyone found guilty of verbally or physically assaulting a member of the emergency services.
i would get rid of the bedroom tax, not just for my benefit, its been a blight on the poorest
Litter - we have to get a grip on litter - it makes our streets and countryside an eyesore and (I believe) actually encourages/increases other low-level antisocial behaviour.

Automatic community service doing litter picking (in a nice fluorescent jacket) for anyone caught littering.

Long jail sentences for fly-tipping too.
You don't get back in the country when you have left to fight for a terrorist group.
I think I'd probably make a list of offences attracting a prison sentence, probably starting with stuff like brainwashing the enfeebled into causing mayhem in the name of a god, all the way down to the very last item, shouting at a fireman.

Good grief.
agree with Talbot totally
Long jail sentences for fly-tipping too.

I agree but it is like missing in the wind.
I have given the council everything they need to prosecute 3 separate offenders ... they each got a terrifying warning letter ... one group is still at it

''we'll shift that for you mrs''.
1. Presumed consent. People die for want of organ transplants. That's appalling. I believe it has been tried in Wales though don't know how successful it has been.
2. Government-funded funeral/burial/cremation costs for children. This has been championed by a Labour MP (whose name I have forgotten) and would cost a very small amount of money.

Thanks for remarks,

Definitely one for taking the easy way out and go bankrupt, as its just not businesses these days, its the ordinary man in the street now.

Same here HC, weekends in A&E is a nightmare for staff.

As you say Emmie, bedroom tax is inexcusable for the, not so well off.

Litter Sunny, another hate of mine, and plastic takeaway/ready meal food cartons should be banned especially.

And migrants who rob, rape and whatever, should be deported, like terrorist Talbot.

If the Government can fund funeral/burial/cremation etc for prisoners, migrants or the homeless, why not indeed for children Scooping.
Its bad enough losing a child, and the worry of the cost, just adds to more misery.

Thanks folks, we need you in Government :-)

I would ban fireworks and would include in that all recreational explosive noisemakers and those flying lantern things. I would also drastically rewrite the DDA.
I would make it illegal to name check people after you have been on Popmaster.
I would add a sliding scale to the Human Rights thingy, a person who commits crime should have fewer rights than an innocent person, in practice it's used to protect wrong-doers.

Hopkirk I agree, I either put my fingers in my ears and la la la until finished or turn volume down and keep guessing when they have done!
Oh no Murdo, not another election
I am tired and probably this post may be incoherent but I wanted to type it before going to bed.

• I would make it a much more serious offence to be cruel to animals. For the more serious crime a lengthy prison sentence. Some nasty people do some horrific things to animals and get off with a slap on the wrist.

• Crimes against property should carry lesser sentences that crimes against people. The law is a bit wonky there.

• Sex offenders (more serious ones) should be castrated so that they won’t re-offend.

• Women with PMS should be allowed one confirmed kill before punishment is considered.

Superb Susan , thank goodness you didn't post whilst wide awake.x
Just for the record ............................................

............................ I am not a terrorist.
Whoa Wolf! That last one worries me a bit.

Oh and Caran, I'm glad to hear it's not just me.
