Rent Rise
My brother in Kent has just been informed by his property management company that his Landlord is increasing the rent on his house rental. He currently pays £1200 per calendar month and the rent is increasing to £1600 pcm. He has been there for 5 and 1/2 years with no rent increases. This seems a little excessive to me. Does anybody know how he stands legally? Many thanks....(i'll also post this in Law- Civil)

There is no max figure for rent increases My own landlord increased mine 23% stating she hadn’t previously increased it.

I had a quick look online, at a Citizens Advice Website. The info there said that the landlord had to obey certain rules, governed by the type of tenancy involved. There was online help to check this. The website did also mention that details of any possible increases are usually included in the orirginal tenancy agreement - so maybe your brother could check that first?
