Tahir Ali, Labour MP for Birmingham Hall Green and Moseley, has urged Keir Starmer to ban the 'desecration' of religious texts and abuse of prophets of Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
'Last year, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution condemning the desecration of religious texts, including the Koran, despite opposition from the previous government.
'Acts of such mindless desecration only serve to fuel division and hatred within our society.
'Will the PM commit to introducing measures to prohibit the desecration of all religious texts and the prophets of the Abrahamic religions?'
The PM said 'Can I agree with him that desecration is awful and I think should be condemned across the House.
'We are committed to tackling all forms of hatred and division, including Islamophobia, in all of its forms.'
Former Tory Minister David Davis, a champion of civil liberties, said: 'For centuries, one of the most important features of Britain’s freedom of speech is the absolute right to criticise religion. Freedom of speech is fundamental to everything we have and everything we stand for. I regret Keir Starmer did not make that clear to Mr Ali at PMQs.’
It's pretty sneaky to shoehorn Christians and Jews in there - neither are likely to complain - but their prophets are also the prophets of Islam so it's handy.. October is. apparently, Islamophobia Awareness Month, and is marked annually.

"When I read some of the ill-informed rhetoric posted here I truly despair. Comparisons to Crusaders and political activists in other areas - and the obvious answer to the violence - psychopaths who for some strange reason are far more abundant in one group than in any other - none of it is rational. From 9/11 to 7/7, from the Taliban to Isis to Hamas, from the slaughter at the Manchester Arena to the beheading of charity worker Alan Henning, from Charlie Hebdo when thousands of 'ordinary' Muslims in Europe and elsewhere went on the rampage demanding blood, to the vicious slaughter of Lee Rigby, to Salman Rushdie, maimed for life for writing a book - to the people who sent a teacher and his family into hiding because he had the temerity to show a class a cartoon of Mohammed, to the atrocity at the Bataclan, to the women who, despite wearing western dress in normal life, thoroughly disrespect our courts by insisting on hiding under Islamic garments before our judges, to the NHS hygiene rules that are overridden to accommodate Islamic foibles, putting public health at risk, to the girl who is currently battling her school - at the taxpayers' expense - for the 'right' to ignore rules that apply to everyone else - and the people supporting her by intimidating staff and pupils alike. All of this and much, much more have just one thing in common. Islam. Make excuses for this at your peril - or more correctly at the peril of those who follow you because you're old and you won’t be reaping the result of what you're sowing. What legacy are you leaving - and are you sure it's one you want to leave? You make a grave error in comparing Islam to other religions, and in endowing its followers with a mindset similar to your own because it's one that those indoctrinated into this regime don’t possess. Islam is not just a religion - it is a philosophy that doesn't compromise, that is arrogant in its determination, that has no respect for outsiders, that is the most misogynistic on the planet - something its non-Islamic champions don't seem to have a problem in over-looking - and make no mistake - justification for everything it does can be found in its literature. It governs every single aspect of life - even to the right way to use the toilet. I truly believe that the west is now facing a very serious crossroads - and the life Islam imposes is not one that your children and their children will ever thank you for - so just be careful what you defend - and what you wish for."
To answer the question...
I hope not but I wouldn't put it past tool and the gang.
We don't need laws to force people to respect things, I have little respect for religion but I don't go out of my way to "blaspheme", I respect the followers in the same way I respect the right of people to believe in any branch of the WWOTB. I don't believe it but if others choose to, fine.
Of course it will happen here along with Sharia Courts and all the rest of it. I feel sorry for women, gays and adulterers - wouldnt surpise me if stoning eventually came here.
Labour are the useful idiots. People from the ME tend not to be lefties, on fact the total opposite. Once they have enough in place you will see the Muslim Party formed. It may well be a take over of Labour like the Libnerals have recently done to the Torys.
As a practising Christian - I would rather allow criticism of my religion (and we do get some unwarranted and ignorant stick) than give a clear run to the doctrines and rules of Islam.
The fact that Christ is accepted as a Prophet in Islam (although that is not always understood by its followers) does not bear weight with me.
Islam is militant in its defence - I do not want Sharia courts and laws; I do not want other teachers t. o come across teenage boys crying in a corner because of the beating they have received by making a mistake at Friday prayers. Islam must not be protected from criticism.
If that means that Christianity, Judaism etc. must not be protected either - fair enough.
jourdain2, once the uk has a huge proportion of muslims 50/50 a muslim party will form and thats inevitable in my opinion sheer demographics, i see like sein fein being in stormont, but i can see militant action before that happens, wrong erm maybe, at least i hope so, but the sheer number of illegals im sure are muslims, and from very militant countries.
