Parking Fine

On TV the other night on Watchdog they were reporting on companies who send photographic evidence of illegal parking and you get fined. Yesterday I received one for a supermarket where I was working as a merchandiser for my firm. Is there any way that I will be able to convince them that I had to be there to do my job and get the fine rescinded?

Or should I just pay up and look big? Trouble is I go there once a fortnight and there will probably be another one on its way already. What did they say on Watchdog about it - is it legal?

I didn't see the programme and this is the first time I have heard of this although I have seen attendants at supermarkets ready to dish out tickets.

The only advice I can give is talk to the store manager and see if he can cancel the ticket sorry thats the best I can do

It's perfectly lawful for a private parking enforcement company, employed by a landowner, to issue fines as long as there is adequate signage warning car drivers about this.

Most supermarkets require visitors to sign in upon arrival (and many require that the visitor's car registration number is stated in the visitor's book). If you signed in at the supermarket you should ask the manager to contact the parking enforcement company on your behalf.
