Cavity Wall Insulation

Has anyone had any bad experiences of cavity wall insulation in recent years, or is it now generally deemed to be a jolly good idea all round and devoid of pitfalls? Via a company emplyed by the local council, my mother's been offered the whole house, a 1970's 3 bed semi, for �100. It's a dormer semi, will this have any effect on the efficiency? She's got loft already, but may top that up too. Would be good to hear your opinions and experiences on cavity wall insulation, good or bad! Thanks in advance.

You can't have enough insulation to reduce fuel costs.

Cavity wall insulation is an absolute godsend it works very well, when it's done you can feel an instant improvement inasmuchas the heat can be turned down.

There are schemes where it can be done for free ~for people on various benefits, this is advertised in the press and I have seen leaflets in my doctor's surgery.

After a �200+ Gas bill the other week, plus weeks of trying to keep the house warm, I'm up for this even if I have to live on cornflakes for a month to pay for it.

Cavity insulation will make a large diference to her heating bills and to her level of comfort. Approximately 25% of her heat loss will occur through the exterior walls of her dwelling.
