It looks like we have to have our house re-wired, it's a small old cottage 2 1/2 bedrooms and it was last re-wired maybe 20 yrs ago. The fuse box is very old and the type you have to wind fuse wire around the fuses as they blow. I would like to think that we only need a new fuse box, but I really dont know :-( Does anyone know how much a whole re-wire of a house would cost? Many Thanks :-)
Hi ascitwhite,
I had my house completely re-wired in November and it cost 2100. It is a traditional Victorian terraced house with 2 bedrooms and 2 receptions. it took 2 weeks to do. Not sure when it had last been re-wired prior to us having it done, ages ago I think! Price depends on whether or not you want additioanl sockets/lights put in etc.
Hope this helps,

And a fuse box won't do these days - it'll be replaced by a 'Consumer Unit' with an RCD safety main 'breaker' switch and 'over-current trip switches' instead of fuses for the individual circuits..
If it was rewired about 20 years ago,you may just need a new Split load Consumers unit and the earthing upgraded
if this is so I would allow about 300-400 for this, If you have a rewire is dependant on which part of the Country you are in I would think between1500-2000 should get you a really good, neat job, hope this helps you, good luck, Ray
Thank you to you all, that's helped to make me feel a little less nervous.
Note to self is to get with the more modern techno terms... alas fuse boxes are no more :-) and I so enjoyed scrabbling around for the fuse wire.
