Who supplies your area?!

I've started work for a company that project manages house builds. I need to find out who supplies things like gas, electricity and water for different sites - does anyone know where I can find that information or who I need to speak to? I have tried the local council pages but they are no help at all!!!

I think you need to start with the bulk suppliers, the local area electricity board and Transco (or whatever they're called now - something like Southern Gas Networks around here). They should be able to tell you who meters and bills the property.

I have info in my file (believe 2006) which should still be current but I haven't used it; 'anyone who is moving into a property can find out who the current supplier is by calling 0870 608 1524' and giving full address or quoting the number on the meter (meter point reference number on a yellow label (gas). Not sure if this is for elect too. Where no record exists this is called a found meter and a gas supplier will have to register it. Current regs, by the way, according to this newspaper article state that if a customer has not had a bill for more than 2 yrs then any amount outstanding from before that 2 yr period cannot be billed. This reduces to 1 yr from coming July. There is a website too on who supplies gas and elec to a house but cannot locate at present.

local council may have maps showing who supplies what in each area-they need that info for streetworks etc and will pass info onto individuals who have to consult with statutory undertakers if they want to undertake private works.
