fensa certificate

I have had a new central heating boiler fitted at my property in June 2006 by a friend who is not corgi registered at present, however has 30 years experience at fitting gas central heating systems. I have recently sold my house and my solicitor is asking for a FENSA certificate can you advise as to how I can obtain one of these certificates.

FENSA is to do with you windows hunnie...

Have you had any windows or doors installed since you have been living there?

If you have you need to get a FENSA certificate from the contractor...

If the contractor was not FENSA registered then it should have gone throught building control....

No have not had any windows fitted just a new boiler, my Solicitor says that any gas fitted appliances fitted after Jan 2001 have to be compliant with FENSA, and therfore a FENSA certificate is required.

i think somewhere along teh line somebody has got confused.....

You may need a Corgi certificate for the installation of teh boiler, but to my knowledge fensa is excludive to windows...

Yup you need a CORGI certificate - nothing to do with FENSA whatsoever.

you will have received a benchmark/logbook with the boiler that shold have been filled in by a corgi registered installer.it covers important things like ventilation checks, a record of flue tests , pressure testing at the meter and at your multifunctional valve in the boiler etc
are you starting to get the picture? its a service installation record to prove that what was done was by a competent person.
in the eyes of the law that means corgi registered.your fitter knows this but could,nt give a toss and has left you to put it right to prove the integrity of the installation and any subsequent srevices
what you have done is to use someone you trusted and are now having to pay again, probably ,to put it right like loads of people do.not fair is it?

Sorry! Friend or not, central heating boiler instalation means Corgi Registration in these days of claim and strife! Please research carefully before putting your name to anything!

Are you actually in the process of selling and have a buyer?

What you could do is have a Corgi registered gas engineer come and check the installation and then certificate it if all is well.

Alternatively, you could be a complete pain to your buyers and tell them to get it checked during their conveyancing.

All new gas appliances have to be certified and registered with CORGI and only they will issue the certificate you are required to have by law for the installation of the boiler you mention. I am afriad without that certificate it means that the boiler is not registered and an illegal gas fitter has been at work. If he was so competent then you have to ask you're self why is he not CORGI registered then ??? 30 years experiance or not, without propper training and updating of qualifications to keep up with new technology and new regulations then i actually doubt he is competant. The chances of a reputable gasman putting his name to somebody else's work is highly unlikely i am afraid to say so geting a certificate from a registered installer is not an option as we can only issue a gas safety certificate anyway and not the registered fitted documant that only CORGI issue directly to you. About the only thing you can do is to phone CORGI and ask them to send an inspector to come out and inspect the whole installation and see if they will pass it and issue the certificate. It is up to you as to whether or not you want to name the original installer or just play dum and say you cannot remember who installed it.
