I hate my job with a passion and really want to leave as soon as possible!!
I have mortgage protection insurance. If I am sacked will the insurance pay out? I know it will not be paid if I took voluntary redundancy. I am in the process of job hunting now but can't stand it here a minute longer!!
Thanks!!

An old friend of mine always used to say "Don't let pride come between you and your mortgage". Sit it out, bite your lip and keep those applications rolling out. It is a known fact that your chances of getting a job out of employment are much greater than out of unemployment, so hang on as long as you can....... Something will come along....

thanks, I hear you but I can't express how much I hate this job! I wake up in the morning stressed and depressed. I am not workshy I want another job and if I was offered one today with a paycut I would take it!!
I will keep the application rolling but not sure how long I can stay here without actually walking out ......which I clearly can't afford to do! :((
what do you do Misstrery?

I work in a city bank - it's horrible!
I would read the Terms and Conditions of your mortgage protection policy VERY CAREFULLY INDEED. Most people who take out these policies usually find that when they need to make a claim, they are not covered, or have to wait several months for the policy to kick in before it will start paying out. With the current state of the economy, I would think jobs in city banks are fairly vulnerable right now anyway, so I'd hang in there and keep stashing the money away while you can. Just try and remind yourself that you only ever have to live one day at a time.
i feel sorry for you, i love my job and wish you could one you enjoy

I would also recommend that you took time to discuss your issues with your employer. perhaps that they are not aware that there is a problem and if you are good at your job then they may implement changes that would make it bearable.
I have been retired from the insurance industry for almost twenty years, memory a little fuzzy, but the mortgage protection policies that I sold were to pay out in the event of the death of the mortgagee. Not for redundancy or sacking.
Those were different things entirely Wop/tpo.

This is a mortgage protection insurance - pays the monthly mortgage in cases of sickness or redundancy.

Thanks for your replies.
Unfortunately, the nature of the job means many aspects can't be changed . Manager is not very approachable, her mood changes like the wind! Furthermore if I told her I was unhappy she would make my life hell as it would be obvious I was job hunting. I will continue with the job hunt. My concern is the payment of my mortgage. I don't to work here anymore!
sounds like it would be for the best to leave then. will it be difficult to attend interviews? I guess your manager might get suspicious.
will you be able to take a holiday, sick leave or unpaid leave? if you really hate it but could risk your mortage, maybe just get a break from it rather quit straigt way, then you can use the time to find a job asasp.
Question Author
It is really difficult to attend interviews. Fortunately the ones I have had have been on my days off.
I went to my bank at lunch time to see if I was entitled to a payment break and they said I was (up to 6 months). I intend to hand in my notice within the next 4 weeks and apply for a 2 month payment holiday. I am hoping (praying!) I will find something within those 2 months. If my work say I can have a break then even better if not I'll have to take the risk.
Good luck!

You're doing the right thing - scary though.
good idea to take a break but are the same issues going to be there when you get back. I would spend the time having interviews and if you are successful in any at least you then have the option to stay or go.

Good luck and I hope that it all works out for you.

xx

Thanks guys.
I am actually going to hand in my notice. If they say I can have a break then that's a bonus -and I will use the time to apply for jobs and attend interviews. My intention is not to come back. If not then the risk I run is that I do not get a job within the 2 months (actually 3 months including my notice period) and I am without a job and no income. I could probably survive for an additional 2 months.
All I know is that I can't work here much longer and I am willing to take the risk even though it could work out badly......
sometimes you just need to make a leap of faith. I did it and was out of work for just over a month but if your skills are right and you can handle interviews then something will come up. Keep positive and if there is any piece of advice I can give you for an interview it is this:

many people get nervous about an interview because they are being scrutinised. Remember that an interview is a two way thing, it is as much about whether the company will fit you as you will fit the company. Try to think that they would benefit from employing you and they have to sell themselves to you!

Also get as many Recruitment Agencies on the case as possible, They are bound by the Data Protection Act so cannot legally divulge anything to your present employer.

Good luck!
I hate my job too and am looking at getting a new one. I brought my issues up with my line manager and she suggessted I go and find a new job if I didn't like my current one!

Good luck!
