I intend to take a builder to court for the recovery of 200 . (He took this as a deposit and never carried out the work) I have discovered he already has CCJs against his name . Will this make my situation more difficult or easier ?

It won't make it any more difficult to take him to court but it does give an indication that he doesn't tend to pay his debts :-(

Even if you go to the Small Claims Court and win, there is no guarantee that he will actually repay your 200 and you would then have to take further action which could potentially cost you more than the 200 he owes.
agreed, getting a judgment is the easy bit, its getting it enforced which is a total nightmare where people don't have jobs.

you'd probably have to send in the bailiffs who are usually crap or take a charge over any property he owned and threaten to apply to sell it unless he paid you off - usually you end up with a certain amount per week as courts are very reluctant to allow a house to be sold if they offer to pay even a derisory amount
