Hi Guys
basically i need to know... is there only one type of credit check?

what i mean is..... on boxing day i went to get a sofa, i applied for credit it got declined, i bought it with my savings in the end, anyway i only seem to beable to get credit with my bank, which is great, but store cards, catalouges or anything else are a no go, im not bothered as i dont use them or want them but,,,,,,

i need to move out in the next 6 weeks as some of you know my 2nd child is on the way, money isnt a problem and deposit all sorted, so i was all excited looking around at houses, then the guy says we will need to run a credit check????? this takes a week to go through, worst thing is it costs over 100 and you dont get it back if you fail it?
will i fail it???? im not actually getting anything on credit, so what are they checking for?????
i know i have a bad credit record when it comes to store cards etc but is this the same check?

any advise be great, i cant stay here there is no room for baby!!! :o(

I think you can ask why you have been declined and work from there. You can get a credit report from experian for free. Why do you think you have a bad credit record for store cards? have you defaulted?

I know of some letting agents who take your money for a credit chack and don't bother doing one!!!

Sometimes you are declined simply because you haven't been in debt or have a credit card.

My 'credit worth' is poor simply because I have only ever had one loan (for 300 about 25 yrs ago) paid in full etc, I don't have a credit card and pay all my bills on time. I once thought I would have a good one because of this but apparently not.....
If you have a bad credit record then this will show up when the Agent does a credit check. What the Agent/landlord does about it after that is up to them. Some may ask for a larger deposit others may ignore it. If the instances of poor credit are not recent you may be ok.
