Should I ask to pay less
28 Answers
rent.
I'm moving from a double room/double bed to a single room/single bed.
The reason is because I was going to be moving out and my landlady has got another girl for my room and has seen it and paid the deposit and is moving in next month. Then I decided I wanted to stay and so I need to have the other room in the house which is a much smaller room with a single bed.
I don't want to seem like I'm pushing my luck asking for reduction in rent because I feel landlady has been quite good to let me pay by housing benefit anyway. Some people are telling me it would not be pushing my luck and I should ask for a reduction.
What would you do?

Sometimes what hun?
Yes I have to pay the rent til the housing benefit comes through.
I phoned up to apply but not sure yet if I have to fill in forms etc. but will find out tomorrow when I go to the yob centre.
I hope it comes through quickly as my money won't last longer than 2 x rent pays if that.
It is a bit hit and miss though as I left my job - if they decide I didn't have a sufficient reason to leave job they could reduce benefit or maybe even stop it.
I don't know what they class as a sufficient reason.

the yob centre isn't open tomorrow. I'be been the the yob centre today (for the first time in my life!) for my initial registration and I've applied for housing benefit and council tax benefit as well as the unemployment benefit and it will all be through in 10days they said. I'm not waiting for the money as I get my redundanct payment at the end of the month and my notice and holiday pay, but as it is all less than 16K I still get benefit, which is good. It was very quiet in there too, and they were very nice, I even helped the advisor fill in her computer screen cos she was a rubbish typist and couldn;t spell for toffee
She said I was well organised but if i didn't get a job in 13 weeks i had to start l;ooking at other possibilities, I asked her how long she'd worked there and whether she liked her job and what she didn't like about it and where did she see herself working in 10 years time, she was really interesting .
