Estimate cost of rewiring.
I am fed up with having tradespeople who think because you are a woman and on your own they can rip you off. I think I once read in a newspaper article about a site where one can roughly calculate the cost of building work but I can't find it. I have a six bedroom semi, 3 floors. I don't mind paying for a good job and I am sensible enough to know that the cheapest quote is not always the best but a ball-park figure would be useful. Am I talking about £2,000 3,000 4,0000 or what. One electrician quoted me £10,000 but then I was warned he was not good!

I would get at least three quotes preferably from recomendations. If they all come out roughly the same you know how much it should be. If there is one that is very high or low then either challenge them to explain why or cut and run.

Also check they are qualified to do work. i.e. NICEIC registered etc.

Is it a straight re-wire or will you be asking for extra sockets/light fittings etc added. If extra fittings get a cost per fitting then if you decide you want more or less price can be adjusted accordingly.
Also get a detailed quotation not a LUMP SUM price, otherwise an unscrupulous contractor may try to charge for items that were 'not included' in original price.
