Hi

I was wondering whether in general, or from experience, you have any advice about making a big move.

I am planning to move from London to Manchester later in the year. The contract on my current flat expires at the end of August so I will be looking to move around then.

What I'm unsure of is when and how do I plan and do stuff? I will need to have a job up there and a home before I go up there (pretty sure my friend wouldn't appreciate me crashing at hers with all my worldly belongings). I have been looking around at jobs to see what's about but when would be the right time to start looking and applying properly?

Obviously the finding a home bit is easier but again any advice welcome!!

I just wondered if anyone out there can help and offer me any advice!!!

Thanks,

Loobs

By the way, when I said the finding a home is easier bit, clearly I will be renting!!!
hi loobie.

I did something similiar a few years ago. I lived in a very quiet, remote part of the country and decided to move to a city Id only visited a handful of times! I packed my job in, found a flat - paid 6 months rent in advance so it wouldnt be a massive issue if I didnt get a well paid job. So as soon as I was there, I registered with agencies, looked in local papers etc. All in all, I was 3 weeks without a job! And that job was perfect so it was worth the move. Im not too far from Manchester now if you want some details of agencies in the area etc?
You could always put your stuff into storage.

Thanks jb, that would be great. I won\'t be in the situation where I can pay upfront for a flat but Ummm you are completely right that my stuff could go into storage.
what type of work are you looking at, office, finance, etc, something more specialist?

I work in events at the moment and do love it but I would not be closed to any idea really - just nothing that you need an actual specific qualification for!!!
Ive used Adele Carr, but they are financial recruiters covering the north west, not specifically manchester.
Try adecco and jobwise - both have websites you could look at. Try websites such as monster.co.uk and fish4jobs.co.uk
