Home Information Pack (HIP)

I am about to sell my flat and have been told I have to buy a HIP... All the estate agents have told me It will cost more to buy through them and I would be better to get one indipendantly. I know very little about HIPs, so does anyone have any recomendations/suggestions???

At what point in Evolution have estate agents started giving advice aimed at saving you money?

Many of them are so keen to screw some commission out of the property that you have worked hard to buy, they will provide the HIPs for free.

I agree!!!! I was quite surprised myself but all of them without exception said I could save about £100 by getting on on-line myself.

just good HIP (your county) and take a look.

I booked one for a commercial property that way and saved a bit of money. And in east anglia you can save about £200 by searching

I just forked out nearly £500.00 through estate agents!! and they didnt even manage to sell my flat!

The only part you actually need to get someone in to do is the EPC. Shop around for this as there are a lot of people offering the service. All the rest of the HIP you can do yourself - sending off for searches etc. There's plenty of info online on how to do it yourself. We've done it twice now and there's really nothing to it.

I'm surprised too at the Estate Agents offering money saving advice!

Go independent by searching the web. Paid about £220 about 6 months ago for one. This 'industry' is pretty much tied down by Codes of Conduct and any Cowboys are out. Look for an organisation who subcribes to the HIP Code and whose individuals delivering the component parts work to the Search Code.
