I am about to sell my flat and have been told I have to buy a HIP... All the estate agents have told me It will cost more to buy through them and I would be better to get one indipendantly. I know very little about HIPs, so does anyone have any recomendations/suggestions???
Many thanks

Shop around for this as there are a lot of people offering the service. All the rest of the HIP you can do yourself - sending off for searches etc. There's plenty of info online on how to do it yourself. We've done it twice now and there's really nothing to it.
I'm surprised too at the Estate Agents offering money saving advice!

Go independent by searching the web. Paid about £220 about 6 months ago for one. This 'industry' is pretty much tied down by Codes of Conduct and any Cowboys are out. Look for an organisation who subcribes to the HIP Code and whose individuals delivering the component parts work to the Search Code.
