hey I just bought this house which is going to have some renovation but due to planning will take 2 months to start work. The house has really bad damp due to poor roof they are orginal clay 1900 tile with some parts felted some not. I noticed a tile has moved to leave quite large hole.

I would a) like to know what would casue a tile the move all the others are intact it is on an edge it has not fallen off it has just moved completely could this be human interaction or natural.

and b) due to the wait of two months I dont want the house to get even damper in this bad weather, I know nothing about roofs but I think alot of the loft is boarded if I go up and see the whole could I in theory move the tile back by hand?

you could go into the loft but if that is part felt then you would not be able to get at the tile to realign it from underneath the other thing of course is if the rain goes onto that part of felt then it goes down into the loft because the felt is only in parts, you could put pieces of over lapped felt sealed together with mastic to try and cure the leak but that is only temp, those old roman type clay tiles are only held onto the tile battens by there weight and x2 hanging clay top lugs I suspect one lug is broken you may be able to use a ladder with help from the gutter position and move it back into place with a long 2"x1" wood batten HTH Tez
depending n the work you intend to do - you might be able to start under building notice... and therefore do something about the roof problem...

thanks so much for your help
You can protect or maintain what you already have without problems.
Lug on tile will have frosted off. Find a few spares and change them. You can do the odd one by moving others about.
Nosha is talking about building regulations, not planning permission. What exactly is your application for? Is the property listed? Either way you will not get in trouble moving the tile or putting plastic etc to cover it provided you don't do anything irreversible.
