Masking tape on a car

The other half has used some masking tape because he has been cutting and polishing the car. He put this stuff all over the chrome to protect it. Unfortunately, it got baked in the sun and now he can't get it off.

Any ideas as to what he could use to get rid? He's tried white spirit but it is taking ages.

(I am secretly killing myself laughing though).

wd40
Sticky stuff remover (it's called that) from a DIY store.
You'll probably find it wears off after about 40 years.

Excellent thank you. I'll send him to Lakeland tomorrow!

(I suggested WD40 but he said it would muck up his lovely gleaming paintwork).
not just the sun has caused this its the amount of time its been left on, bodyshops bake cars after painting at far higher temps. than the sun with masking tape on and they dont get any problems.
