Gazebo or parasol?

Anyone tell me if they have a gazebo or parasol.And what they think is best?Im considering either a 2.7m gazebo or a 2.4m parasol thta winds up. Theres not much diffference size wise but im wondering whats most practical wind and weatehr wise?

The gazebo is probably best for winter storage. Also the wind up parasol needs to be anchored at the bottom to prevent overbalancing. I used to use a sandbag.

I preferred the gazebo as it was possible to move the table around inside it to ensure that maximum use was made of the shade. The parasol doesn't have the same degree of flexibility...

we had next doors gazebo in our garden yesterday. On its roof it was, blew over a 6ft panel fence!

Shouldve put sandbags round it.

Funnily enough I've been thinking about the same thing. I think I'll be going for the gazebo option. I've been looking at cantilever parasoles which have a large and rather obtrusive base (I'd be forever tripping over it) also I would'nt trust it if the wind picked up. The gazebo has four anchorage points and I've had experience of them in bad weather, if they are fixed properly they are more stable in high winds.

Also.........we purchased side panels which can fend off a chill breeze on an otherwise pleasant day.

Hi, not boasting but I have both . I bought the parasol as I couldn't find a 2.7m gazebo at the time, they all seemed to be 3.0m or bigger and wouldn't fit onto my patio. Personally I find the gazebo better for shade as jackthehat says you can move stuff around inside it. The parasol is fine if I only want it when there are only 2 of us sitting on one side of the table as it doesn't keep the sun off both sides. Argos have a 2.7m one with sides on offer at the moment for £40.

We have a gazebo and find it works best in a wind when the legs are weighted down.We use some ols weight lifting weights as they are a good fit

Think i will go for the gazebo.Ive looked at the argos one and think i will take a drive into town at the weekend and buy one . Thanks for all the information.

Depending on where you're going to put it, the gazebo could require planning permission as its over 2.5m tall. See www.planningportal.gov.uk. Unless you're going to put it up and take it down every night, that is.

Halfords are selling pop-up gazebos for £49.95 at the moment. I have 2 and can put them up in a couple of minutes.

what are you using it for, permanent shading?

We have a gazebo which we set up when we need particular shading (e.g. as a beer tent) - but generally the big parasol suffices us. You have to make sure that the gazebo is very well tied down, otherwise the wind can get under it and it will sail next door (believe me!)
