can i chop a branch off of my yukka and it still live?

Yes. Cut off your branch, strip off about half the swords, them embed the stem about 3" deep in heavy sandy soil. Water scantly about once every two weeks. It will set new roots in about 3 months. Root homone might accelerate. Don't over water or it will rot.
