Pest control.

think the council still do this, they'll charge, but its better than having those little evil buggers around making your life hell.

Don't attempt it yourself!

have you been in the loft ? chances are they are normal wasps acessing their nest through the gaps in the tiles...
Masonry bees/wasps ? usually make a nest in the brick mortar..
This sounds like your common wasp nest to me, masonry bees will not usually go under the slates. any pest controller will eradicate them.
