What's the Next Step?

An animal charity is being run very badly by its management including things like fraud, making dodgy decision in relation to the animals, not treating the staff right (everything is very inconsistent - what applies to one person doesn't seem to apply to another) and basically the animals are suffering one way and another. No one can complain to the management as they are the problem!

There are trustees of the charity but they don't seem to care too much either. Rumour has it (and its not really a rumour!) that one particular person who's causing the most problems has actually slept with a number of the trustees. Most of them are married so she has a bit of a hold over them!

This means things can happen like employing her sister as a van driver ... promoting her to health and safety officer (for 3 days a week) ... making that 7 days a week ... promoting her to animal welfare officer ... then promoting her to manager! And she has no experience at all! Not sure this could happen in any other place!

As the trustees don't seem to be that bothered for one reason and another, what do you think the next steps should be? Its awful that they can get away with everything they have in the first place, but its also extremely bad to see the animals suffering. Dogs aren't getting walked as they're so short staffed and it has been known that some of the staff weren't feeding the dogs properly - and not cleaning their kennels as they should be.

Any ideas?

For animal welfare i would suggest RSPCA.

For charity issues, I would suggest Charity Commission if there is fraud going on. Check out their website.

Apparently one charity cannot investigate another charity - thats been suggested before!

Charity Commission website has become involved before as there were issues about donations being spent as they should be (rather than on a new desk or golf lessons!). However, the CC closed their investigation after a while as I assume what they found out was inconclusive. I believe they have been contacted again but the same person who dealt with it in the first place wasn't particularly happy that this hadn't been put to bed.

what has happened to your husband over his swearing?

If the CC wont get involved what about the police?

The press may be interested but may wonder whether your perspective is influenced by your husband's disciplinary issue regarding swearing at work.

He got a written warning. Even the letter he got didn't match up with the minutes!! Total shambles. Now found the handbook which just mentions bad language being an offence (doesn't say who it's done in front of) so I'm assuming anybody who swears and gets heard should have a disciplinary!!!

Others have thought about approaching a local newspaper actually. Just wondered if there was anything else before taking that step.

Factor30 - not influenced at all, this has been rumbling on for a long time now before hubby got wrong! Most of the staff are up in arms about it and either walking out or trying to decide what to do. Worst thing is it seems the more you care for the dogs the more they don't like it!!

All of the "what to do next" has been discussed before, just everything seems to be gathering speed and no one is happy.

Agree - surely some organisation is licensing this place, it sounds like a little whistleblowing might be in order.
