Shower door ... Docspock to help?

So the door has worked loose on my shower.

I suppose it's just opening and closing it ... it has a sticky uppy bit that goes into the frame at the top ... it's worked loose. This has happened before, actually.

The door's closed at the moment. But when I open it, it takes all the weight of the door on the top hinge.

The whole unit is all glass, and the door's a bit heavy, so I can't fix it on my own. I keep imagining the door falling across the room, and smashing glass all over the bathroom. Although I suppose it's probably toughened glass.

This is a Docspock sort of job.

Does anyone know if Doc is free this morning?

Because it's a long way from Blackpool to Brighton?
No I don't know, but if you are still in the shower, then I could be of some assistance ;-)
Doc is currently unavailable on these pages......until Monday, most probably.
Question Author
That doesn't really fix the door, sqad.
Question Author
Oh, really, JTH ?

Well, I suppose I could use the bath until then.
oh no...............in the dungeon again!
Put your Q in Home & Garden and the likes of The Builder should help you out.
Don't stand in the shower whilst he is looking at the problem otherwise he might get distracted !!! :-))

If you can take a picture it may help people too.

And no I'm not being a perv (for a change) I mean take a pic of the shower door, not you in the shower.

crafty ... I know I'm not even allowed to ask what Doc did wrong.

But, hey Doc ... if you're reading this from the Dungeon ... big hug ... x x x

redman ... I don't need advice. Even if I was told what to do, the door's too heavy for me to manoeuvre. I need a little man. Or Doc, perhaps.
lol jj...........I don't know what he did either.
"I need a little man"

That's a shame, I was going to offer to help too.

Poor Doc.
Question Author
Chuck ...

Even really big guys are referred to as "a little man".

It's a whole industry category.

"Little Men"
Mine is a Showerlux and the door hinges have 2 screw fittings on the inside of door; some screws are covered by plastic cover that flips off for access to screws.

Line up the door & insert screws to fix.
I'm amazed how folk manage to visualise the problem sometimes.

Has a sticky uppy bit. Well don't we all? It goes in the top, and yet apparently it is the top hinge that is taking the weight, so it is ok after all ?

Naw, get a little man in to work it out for you.
Question Author
No, you see ...

The hinges are not on the edge of the door ... like a normal door.

They are on the top and bottom of the door, so the door sort of "pivots" on hinges at the top and bottom.

When the door is shut, the frame of the cubucle is supporting the weight of the door. But, when the door is open ... the weight of the door is pulling against the top hinge.

Is that a better explanation?

Probably not.

jayne, try posing the question in Motoring and Albags will solve it - he'll see it as a door hanging off a Citroen.
