Ericaceous compost

Asked OH to get me a bag of potting compost while he was out and has returned with an ericaceous one. Is there any point in using this for normal non-lime hating plants??

that may depend on what type of plants you want to use it for but generally, no, dont use it on anything other than acid lovers.

Thanks halkwalk, what a waste. I've got one azalea in a tub but I only repotted that in the autumn.

Can't you take it back to the shop and ask them to swap it?

That is what I was going to do but he bought it at the local Focus which was having a closing down sale this weekend and he 'says' that was all they had left.

Why not buy some more lime hating plants?

I have several Hydrangeas and so I only ever buy ericaceous compost and that gets used to pot and re-pot everything else - lime haters or not I use it regardless...and have no problems whatsoever with any of my plants..All of which are in pots...
