One on the left is an oriental poppy and the one on the right looks very much like a sunflower of some type. Oriental poppies can be weeds or plants - I love them.
Opium Poppy (Oriental): They come in lots of shades of pink, purple and red, can be single, double, feathery, pom pom and the seeds live in the ground for years and years.
Hi Hopkirk...I assume you are talking to me. I know that Indian Hemp can appear in the garden from bird seed. There was a case of a chap who had such a plant growing in his garden and didn't know what it was until it was spotted by a police officer, when the top of it appeared over the garden wall.
Our garden is full of opium poppies, they grow wild around here and most gardens have them. Beautiful things. The seeds can survive in the ground for literally hundreds of years so every time you dig over a piece of ground up they come. We had a wonderful display of them on a piece of land we prepared for grassing over. They looked wonderful so we left the grassing until the next year.
