One on the left is an oriental poppy and the one on the right looks very much like a sunflower of some type. Oriental poppies can be weeds or plants - I love them.

Opium Poppy (Oriental): They come in lots of shades of pink, purple and red, can be single, double, feathery, pom pom and the seeds live in the ground for years and years.
Lofty's on the button there. Exactly what I thought when I looked at pic.
I agree with Lottie. There are some fabulous double Oriental poppies growing wild at Faversham Station today!
agree with the above too!...........feed and water them both, they will reward you!....
I always say weeds are simply plants you do not want. If you like it , its a plant if you dont it weed
I also go along with LL.

There are lots of supposed weeds come-up in my garden and I am delightfully surprised when they grow into a plant which I am happy to retain.

Anyway, what is a weed.? I go along with the folk who say "It is plant which is in the wrong position within one's garden."

Hi Hopkirk...I assume you are talking to me. I know that Indian Hemp can appear in the garden from bird seed. There was a case of a chap who had such a plant growing in his garden and didn't know what it was until it was spotted by a police officer, when the top of it appeared over the garden wall.

Ron.
Our garden is full of opium poppies, they grow wild around here and most gardens have them. Beautiful things. The seeds can survive in the ground for literally hundreds of years so every time you dig over a piece of ground up they come. We had a wonderful display of them on a piece of land we prepared for grassing over. They looked wonderful so we left the grassing until the next year.
